Benefits Of Using Lash Primer

What is lash primer? Should I use primer for lash extensions? How do you apply lash primer? Do you let eyelash primer dry? This blog will learn more about lash primer and how to use it.

Preparing your client's natural lashes with a lash bath before you start priming can be very beneficial. Not only does it make the priming process easier, but it also nourishes and conditions the natural lashes, making them easy to work with.

Many lash artists are confused about what a primer is and how to prime the lashes properly, and I believe that if you're not priming and prepping the lashes correctly, you might have a lot of retention issues.

It can be tough to tell whether a client is oily because it isn't always obvious, and sometimes you won't know until you see the lash and it has slipped off. If your humidity and temperature are perfect, but your lashes are falling off, you may need to use a primer. It is essential to understand when and why you should use primer since then you'll have the best retention.

WHAT IS A LASH PRIMER?

The eyelash extension primer is a pre-treatment for the lashes to help them stay in place longer. I recommend giving your clients a lash bath before you start priming. Some lash artists prefer to provide all of their clients (complete lash sets or fills) with a lash bath to clean the lashes before starting thoroughly.

A primer will remove the natural oils from the lash, but it will still balance the PH of the lash, allowing the extension to adhere to the natural lash. It will eliminate excess oils, allowing an extension to attach more easily. A lash primer is an excellent option when it comes to lash retention.

WHEN TO USE AN EYELASH PRIMER?

If a client has dehydrated skin, applying a lash primer to their lashes will further dry them out, preventing the glue from fully absorbing into the surface. A lash primer is needed if a client has oily skin and oily lashes.

HOW TO APPLY LASH PRIMER?

STEP #1

Lash Primer can be applied directly to the natural lashes with a lip gloss brush before lash extensions are attached. It eliminates residues and oil buildup on the natural lashes, leading to blepharitis, and prepares the natural lashes to hold the lash extensions better.

Whether or not your client uses eye makeup, oil and protein buildup can occur during the day. Therefore, it's essential to clean and prepare the natural lashes before putting lash extensions.

When applied to the natural lashes and skin, lash primer is very mild on the eyes and does not irritate.

STEP #2

You'll need two applicators (2 per eye) since you don't want to transfer any oils or residue to the other lashes, and when priming, remember to go on top and underneath the lash line because oil isn't just on top of the lash line, it's also underneath.

Some lash artists have a hard time keeping with retention issues, so they have to go back to the basics and remember to prime underneath the lash as well.

STEP #3

Allow the primer to dry on the natural lashes before putting lash extensions.

Make sure you're going from one corner to the next. It's as simple as going on top and underneath. Start at the root and work your way up, being sure not to stop because if someone has any buildup, oils, or old makeup, you'll want to start from the base and work your way up. You can also switch back and forth a few times.

TIP: A disposable popsicle stick is needed to absorb excess moisture and prevent it from entering the client's eyes while priming the lashes.

Is lash primer necessary for every client? Don't let a little product throw you! Make sure you know when and why to apply it--and when not to.

  • Primer can result in poor retention and damage to the natural lashes if not used on the correct client.
  • Lash primer, when used correctly, can make your lash application faster and improve retention. But it's only suitable for some clients.
  • If a client has dry skin, putting a primer on their lashes can also dry them out, preventing the adhesive from fully attaching to the natural lashes.
  • A primer is only needed if a client has oily skin and lashes or has imbalanced PH. It also helps create a smoother application experience by helping remove excess oil from your client's lashes.
  • But if you use primer, let it dry completely before applying lash extensions to avoid shock polymerization.

CONCLUSION

Remember that if someone has full makeup on, the primer will not entirely remove it; in that case, you may need to switch to a lash bath or have the client go into the bathroom and try to remove it.

You can also request that every client arrive with perfectly clean lashes or charge them for a lash bath, which most clients do not want to pay for, so they will come with clean lashes.

When it comes to preparing the lashes, lash primer is a must. If something is working for you, don't change it because it may make or break your sets.
