1. What to Ask for When You Get Your Lashes Done

One of the first things your lash artist wishes you would ask is “What style best suits my eyes and lifestyle?” Often, clients come in with a specific lash look in mind, which may not necessarily complement their eye shape, natural lashes, or daily routine.

Here’s what to consider when choosing your lash style:

  • Natural Lash Health: If you have thin or brittle natural lashes, a dramatic volume set may not be suitable. Your lash artist can recommend a style that enhances your natural lashes without causing damage.

  • Eye Shape: Lash styles like cat-eye or doll-eye can dramatically alter the way your eyes look. Asking your lash artist for advice ensures the style will flatter your unique features.

  • Lifestyle: If you're active or low-maintenance, you may prefer lighter, natural-looking lashes that are easy to care for. Let your lash artist know your routine, so they can recommend the best set for you.

2. How to Prepare for Your Eyelash Extension Appointment

Preparing properly for your lash extension appointment can make a huge difference in the results.

Your lash artist would likely want you to know the following:

  • Arrive with a clean face: Oils, makeup, or leftover products on your lashes can interfere with the adhesive, making it harder for the extensions to bond and reducing their lifespan. Ensure your lashes are free of mascara, eyeliner, and oils.

  • Avoid caffeine before your appointment: Caffeine can make you jittery, causing your eyes to flutter and making it harder for your lash artist to apply the extensions accurately.

  • Dress comfortably: Since eyelash extensions can take up to two hours, wear something comfortable to ensure you feel relaxed throughout the process.

These small preparations help both you and your lash artist achieve the best results possible.

3. Aftercare: What Lash Artists Wish Clients Followed

Proper aftercare is the key to making your eyelash extensions last and preventing any issues.

Here's what your lash artist wants you to know:

  • Avoid water for the first 24-48 hours: Your lash adhesive needs time to fully cure, and exposure to water, steam, or sweat too soon can cause the extensions to fall out prematurely.

  • Skip oil-based products: Oil breaks down lash adhesive. Avoid oil-based makeup removers, cleansers, and moisturizers around your eyes to keep your extensions intact.

  • Don’t pick or pull at your lashes: Pulling at your extensions not only causes them to fall out faster but can also damage your natural lashes.

4. How to Communicate With Your Lash Artist

Sometimes, clients are unsure about how to communicate their preferences or concerns during a lash appointment.

Here’s what your lash artist wants you to feel comfortable discussing:

  • Be honest about past experiences: If you've had previous lash extensions and weren't satisfied, let your artist know why. This will help them tailor the service to avoid any issues.

  • Speak up if you’re uncomfortable: Whether your eyes are burning from the adhesive fumes or your back is hurting during the session, don’t hesitate to mention it. Lash artists aim to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Your lash artist is there to provide the best service and results, and open communication is key to achieving that.

5. Lash Extension Maintenance: The Do’s and Don’ts

Maintaining your lash extensions between appointments is crucial for keeping them looking full and healthy.

Here’s what your lash artist would advise:

Do’s:

  • Brush your lashes daily: Use a clean spoolie to gently brush your lashes and keep them from clumping or tangling.

  • Clean your lashes regularly: Use a lash-safe cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and makeup residue. Dirty lashes can lead to infections and cause the extensions to fall out faster.

  • Book your fill appointments: To maintain a full look, you’ll need a lash fill every 2-3 weeks, depending on how fast your natural lashes shed.

Don’ts:

  • Don’t use mascara on your extensions: Mascara can weigh down your extensions and cause them to fall out. Plus, it's tough to remove without damaging the lashes.

  • Don’t sleep on your face: Sleeping with your face pressed into a pillow can cause premature lash loss. Consider sleeping on your back or using a silk pillowcase to minimize friction.

6. What Lash Artists Want You to Know About Pricing

Eyelash extensions can vary greatly in cost, and some clients are unsure why.

Here’s what your lash artist would tell you about pricing:

  • You get what you pay for: If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Lash artists invest in high-quality products, training, and sanitation to ensure the safety and longevity of your extensions. Cheap lash services may use low-quality adhesives or improper techniques, which can harm your natural lashes.

  • Time is money: Eyelash extensions are a meticulous, time-consuming process. The pricing reflects the artist’s time, skill, and expertise, so it’s important to understand that this service is an investment in both beauty and safety.

7. How to Advertise Your Eyelashes and Promote Your Lash Artist

If you love your lash extensions, your lash artist would appreciate you spreading the word!

Here’s how you can support them and, in turn, help other clients find a great lash artist:

  • Share your experience on social media: Post photos of your lashes and tag your lash artist or studio. This is one of the best ways to refer new clients.

  • Leave reviews: Whether on Google, Yelp, or social media, leaving positive reviews helps lash artists build their business and gain new clients.

  • Refer friends: Word-of-mouth referrals are invaluable. If you have friends who are interested in lash extensions, don’t hesitate to recommend your lash artist.

It was helpful when you said that your lash artist had told you ahead of time that it would take her many hours to complete your lash set. Don’t inquire as to whether the lashes are finished. When it’s all done, she will let you know. Any wonderful thing requires patience to achieve. Given that my baby shower is the following month, I would like to have eyelash extensions. Your advice is useful since I truly want to spend money on something that would make me feel gorgeous once again. https://naillounge.com/lashlounge/

I have the opposite problem. Sometimes I just want to relax and be quiet but my lash tech starts asking ME questions. She’s told me in the past that sometimes my eyes flutter when I speak so I’m super confused as to why she continues to talk. How do I tell her I want a silent appointment to relax without sounding rude? She’s become a friend now and I’ve been going to her for 3 years +… I don’t know how to approach it. I’ve even said in the past “oh I’m quite tired from work today. I’m going to try and sleep through this” and she will STILL ask me questions and talk to me about her life. Ugh.
