Isolation Techniques For Speeding Up Lash Application As A Lash Artist

How do you isolate eyelash extensions? What happens when lashes are not isolated?

If you're starting as a lash artist, you may feel like it's taking forever to isolate each lash or that your work is sloppy. The good news is that there are ways to isolate lashes more quickly without sacrificing quality.

Don't rush through this step! You must take your time and isolate each lash properly so that no one gets damaged or damaged lashes fall off during the process. If you isolate too quickly and improperly, your client's natural lashes will stick together when you try to remove them from each other during the removal process. This can cause many problems.

WHAT IS LASH ISOLATION?

Isolation refers to separating each lash from other lashes so that the extension can be applied without interference. This ensures that the extension will look natural and blend in with your client's natural lashes.

Lash isolation is essential for clients with thin or sparse lashes because they tend to stick together, making it difficult for the extension to apply properly.

The essential component in making clean lash sets is isolation because it prevents the natural lashes from being damaged. Every single one of our eyelashes goes through a growth cycle. If any of them are glued together, they will not be able to shed as they should. Isolation allows the natural shedding process to occur.

There are many benefits of proper lash isolation:

  1. It helps to prevent damage to the natural lashes, keep them healthy, and keep them from getting caught in the glue or bond used during the application process.
  2. The benefits of proper isolation are numerous, but the most important is improved retention. If the glue isn't applied correctly, it can drip down onto your natural lashes, which makes them stick together and prevents them from growing as they should. Properly isolating each lash ensures that they grow at their natural pace and don't stick together with other lashes or fall out prematurely.
  3. Properly isolating the natural lashes will help prevent breakage and damage during removal.
  4. Your clients will have longer, healthier lashes. You won't need to be concerned that your lash client's returned infections or other problems are related to improper application of the lashes.

So you may be wondering how to speed up your technique. After all, this can be a slow process, and it can feel like you're spending so much time on one lash. But don't worry! Here are four ways to help speed it up:

#1 USE LASH TAPE

There are many ways to isolate lashes. One of the most popular techniques is to by using lash tape. If you haven't tried tape yet, we highly recommend it! It's a great way to isolate lashes, especially if you have a client with a dense lash line and lots of natural lashes.

The tape can be helpful when working with a client with many natural lashes. You might want to detack the tape first to avoid inflicting excessive pain on your client, based on the tape you're using and how sticky it is. Before applying the tape to your client, you can quickly remove the tacky layer from your hand.

#2 USE GEL PADS

You can use tape to isolate lashes, but using it can be a bit tricky. Gel pads are your best bet if you work with a sensitive client or want something softer than tape.

They're easy to put on and peel off without leaving any residue. They also allow for more movement than tape, so you can move around and modify it throughout the appointment.

Another option is to use a combination of both gel pads and tape. Applying a gel pad layer over the top of your tape will help prevent any accidental pulling or ripping out of lashes when removing the tape from your client's lids.

#3 USE YOUR FINGERS

Don't you hate it when trying to separate your client's lashes and accidentally touch the neighboring ones? Another option is to use your fingers instead of tweezers, which can be easier for some lash artists.

Lash isolation using fingers

When you isolate, you can feel exactly where the lash is, preventing unwanted contact with neighboring lashes. Your fingers are ideal because they are so sensitive. This is a suitable method for when your client has already had extensions put on because it allows you to maneuver around the existing ones more easily.

For example, if you have a client with an extension still on, you can freely use your ring finger to move the lashes out of the way so you can isolate them with your tweezer, on the other hand.

#4 USING LASH TWEEZERS

Isolating lashes can be tricky. Not only are there many moving lashes, but you also have to be able to see what you're doing. The best way to isolate lashes is with a pair of tweezers.

Most artists isolate without using their pick-up tweezers. However, it is much easier to maneuver and separate your client's tiny baby lashes when you use both tweezers.

When using both tweezers to isolate, you want to angle your isolation tweezer downward and toward the lashes. To provide a clear field of vision and assist isolation, you will also angle the pick-up tweezer upwards while lifting and moving the eyelashes out of the way.

We highly recommend using both tweezers to isolate lashes if you're a beginner. This will make the lash application easier and more efficient.

LASH APPLICATION ERROR: STICKIES FROM POOR ISOLATION

The photos clearly shows two individual lash extensions—Lash extension #1 and Lash extension #2—improperly bonded together by glue. This error can cause discomfort and potentially damage the natural lashes, emphasizing the importance of careful, precise isolation to ensure each extension adheres to only one natural lash.

WHAT TWEEZERS DO YOU USE TO ISOLATE LASHES?

Eyelash tweezers may look like a simple tool, but they can make your work much easier. Beginners usually find it hard to isolate lashes. That's why it's wise to buy a tweezer that will help you in your lash-isolating journey.
