Difference Between Premade Lash Fans And Handmade Fans

What is the difference between promade and premade lashes? What are premade fans? Is it better to use premade fans? Why are hand made fans better?

Let me discuss information about these lash fans and the benefits and drawbacks of using them. Creating an asymmetrical, beautiful fan takes months (sometimes years) of practice, tons of patience, and skill.

When something is complicated, companies will often offer a "shortcut," such as a product that eliminates all of the hard work and time spent practicing.

The continuing lash artist debate: are pre-made volume fans better than handcrafted volume fans?

For every one of the volume lash artists out there, you're probably familiar with the difference between pre-made and handcrafted volume vans.

Pre-made volume fans are made before distribution and are ready to use. Handmade volume fans, on the other hand, are handcrafted by hand and meticulously crafted by the lash artist.

LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THESE TWO TERMS:

First, we have to deeply understand what is promade fans!

Handmade lashes are created by the lash artist without the use of any machinery.

  • Made during the appointment in real-time.
  • They're made by eliminating some of the strip's extensions.
  • They are fanned according to the lash artist's liking, put in glue, and placed on the client's lash, creating a strong bond with the natural lash.

Because our field is always growing and we are always seeking a better way to do things, there is a place for promade lash fans in this market.

Promade lash fans or handmade fans are a great option for a lash artist who is just getting started with volume lashes.

It absolutely saves time for the beginner lash artist and allows them to offer their clients looks that are a little more extravagant, like a hybrid, volume, and mega volume. Furthermore, volume sets typically cost more money, therefore it often makes sense for the beginner or even intermediate lash artists to actually use pre-made fans in order to book more clients and charge more for sets.

Seasoned lash artists sometimes use pro-made fans just to save time when they are booked up, and need a more efficient way to do their lash set.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF PROMADE FANS?

Advantages of using promade volume lash fans:

  • If you prepare your lash fans ahead of time, you can save time during your appointment.
  • A high client turnover rate means more bookings each day.
  • The lash wrapping technique can still be used because of the sharp pointy bases, allowing for excellent lash retention.
  • Clients love fast service. They value their time and greatly appreciate quicker service if the quality is not compromised.
  • There's no need for lash volume training.
  • Compared to the classic set, the volume set provides a higher gross profit.

Disadvantages of using promade volume lash fans:

  • A tray of pro-made fans is more expensive than a tray of volume lashes. It is due to the work and labor to develop the product.
  • Since the lash fans come loose in a package, there is some time required to place them on a sticky pad to make usage as comfortable as possible for the artist.

LASH RETENTION WITH PRO-MADE VOLUME LASH FANS

  1. Slowly dip your lash fan in the lash adhesive, making sure there is enough adhesive
  2. Make sure there is enough contact surface between the natural lash and the pro-made lash fan, to maximize lash retention
  3. Always apply the pro-made lash fan from the side, or from underneath, in order to maximize lash retention by using the wrapping technique.

LASH FAN SYMMETRY MATTERS

If the fan symmetry is too wide or uneven, it will cause the lashes to look messy and not even.

If the foot of the fan is long, when the fan is applied, there could be some sparse areas on the lashes.

If the fan foot is too short, there's a chance of poor retention since there will be a poor surface area.

The next term we need to discuss is what is premade fans!

Premade lashes are fans that have already been created for lash artists. It was placed in a tray that could be picked up and used right away. Clustered lashes are not the same as pre-made lashes.

  • A premade fan is an arrangement of two to eight lashes that have been glued or heat-bonded together at the base.
  • The purpose behind premade fans is that they allow lash artists to save time and eliminates the need to create fans manually.
  • The act of gluing the lashes together gives the fan base more volume.
  • The base becomes much thicker after being coated in adhesive.

Just like any other type of lashes, the damage will only happen if you are applying them in the wrong way, and not taking notice of how heavy the fans are.

They are made to be applied using the same method as you would apply individual semi-permanent lashes.

The risk of damage is greatly reduced thanks to good isolation and less adhesive.

Many lash stylists are understandably against the use of pre-made fans, as they have practiced thousands of hours and spent dollars toward perfecting the craft of creating volume fans by hand. They attach to the natural lash in the same way that a classic or semi-permanent volume lash does.

HOW ARE PRE-MADE FAN LASH EXTENSIONS MADE?

So actually the way premade fan lash extensions are made with assistance from a machine.

It works by placing a row of tiny PBT threads on a lash tray, then heat-bonding or using a little amount of glue to attach the roots.

The PBT threads are rolled into the desired lash curl once the roots have been properly attached to the glue, and they are also processed and heated to keep the curl.

The final step of the process is for the lash factory workers to actually manually separate each individual fan in order to attach them to the adhesive strip on the lash tray.

The final step is to package them and ship them out.

One of the biggest drawbacks I can think of is the fact that premade volume fans don’t allow for as much customization in your lash art. The way I see it, it is much harder to customize your lash fans according to your client’s request.

Lash artists can pick between long-leg lash fans and short-leg lash fans. Because the fans have already been created, a lash artist cannot, for example, make them narrower.

It is also not possible to easily adjust the number of fans the lash artist will use, from a 3D to a 6 D for example, since the fans are already complete.

A lot of clients don’t necessarily care about if the lash artist makes her own fans or uses pre-made fans, they are about getting in and out quickly and making sure their lashes last. There will be some clients that might care about having your personal creative touch, for those clients you may need

GLUE BONDED VS. HEAT BONDED

Heat bonded means that the base of the fan is only held together by heat. Why shouldn't you use glue bonded? This initial sort of pre-made fan, with the glue, is NOT approved for client usage, according to several lash stylists and they are correct. Lash adhesive holds a glue-bonded fan together.

CONCLUSION

Whether you are a new or experienced lash artist, there is definitely a certain appeal if you can make your own handmade fans for your lash clients. If you're looking for customized looks for clients, that's also a huge plus! This can also result in making your lash sets stand out from other lash artists who rely exclusively on premade. That are quite a few reasons why it's worth it to make the switch at least some of how.
