What is confidence? It's being self-assured of your capabilities and believe in what you're doing. Perhaps you've worked as a lash artist for a while, and you feel ready to take on the next step. Sometimes, it's hard to tell if you will succeed or fail when you're already starting your Lash Artist journey. Many people ask me how they can get lash clients. I know that feeling. That's why today we'll discuss some factors that will help boost your confidence as an aspiring LASH ARTIST.

DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER LASH ARTIST

There are so many beautiful lashes sets out there, such as the lashes you see on social media, that it's easy to become discouraged, especially when comparing your work to what's out there.

Perhaps you're wondering why your lashes are sticking out in different directions or why you can't finish your set in 4 to 5 hours when other lash artists, you know, take an hour and a half.

But keep in mind that it took them time, a lot of effort, a lot of failures, and a lot of perseverance to get to where they are, so don't compare yourself to other lash artists.

INVEST IN YOURSELF

The second factor, in my opinion, is to adopt the mindset of gathering as much information as possible. There is a wide range of training available. If you didn't receive adequate training, don't worry, you can still learn on your own, like watching YouTubeInstagramTikTok, etc.

If you put in the time, learn, and try to get as much information as possible, or ask other lash artists, you can potentially get some excellent tips. Remember that what works for someone else may not work for you.

Try to understand that when you first start timing, it's normal to take 4 hours to complete the first classic or volume set. Don't overwork yourself, don't panic, and don't become discouraged quickly. It happens to everyone. Go through that difficult phase to get the confidence to boost your prices, and the more you do it, the faster you will become.

PRACTICE

Because you're using many fine motor skills, it takes time for your hands, especially the movement. If you're just getting started, your hands aren't used to doing things like making fans lash isolation or application. The only way to do this is to practice doing sets. If you don't have any clients, you can practice on a mannequin, but if you want to improve quickly, you should see 5 to 10 clients per week, ideally one or two per day.

I know it's difficult, especially for those who have another job, working or trying to do this side while getting better, but honestly, many lash artists give up because they believe they can't do it, but don't worry, it will get better. Just keep practicing, and you'll see your mistakes and be able to fix them.

DON’T GIVE UP EASILY

You may make mistakes along the way, such as not isolating your fans or working too slowly with the glue, needing the use of a better adhesive so that you have more time to separate and place those fans (if you're working with premade or promade fans)

You might run into retention issues from time to time, and you'll need to troubleshoot what's causing them so you can fix them. Just know that it will be difficult, and usually, everyone goes through it. Please don't beat yourself up about it because nobody I know started as a lash artist, and we speak to many other lash artists.

There's a steep learning curve, and you have to go through it to get the long-term benefits, which will be fast. You'll be able to do those sets quickly. You'll be able to charge more because your lash set is excellent. Your clients are happy. You'll be able to guarantee lash retention because you've already made the mistakes like your environment, humidity, temperature, or lash placement.

I'm not saying your clients will never call you and tell you all their lashes have fallen out, but it will happen fewer and less frequently. Great products and good mentoring will also help have that quality education.

However, to get where you need to go, you must do 80% of the work alone and make those mistakes. Either for free or low price, practice with your family or friends. You can begin accepting paying clients once you've gained some confidence, but you should inform them that you're still a beginner lash artist.

FOLLOW UP ON YOUR CLIENTS AFTER THEIR LASH APPOINTMENT

Because your clients will tell you what's wrong, communication with them will be necessary. Some hesitant clients won't necessarily mean you, so when you're a beginner, it's a good idea to ask them how the lashes are holding up, how they feel, if there's anything you like or don't like, and if there's anything you want to change.

That will help you because they will usually tell you, and from there, you can start learning from your mistakes and building your confidence. Still, I think the most important thing you should take away from this blog is that you will make mistakes, and it is how you handle and solve them that will make you a better lash artist.

TIP: Make sure you follow up with all of your clients after they've completed their sets, perhaps a week later, because they'll be able to inform you. For example, they might tell you about the falling off, and you'll troubleshoot with them, which will assist you to learn spot mistakes.
