Eyelash extension retention is the number of days lashes last on your natural lash before falling out. Lashes can fall out for various reasons, but with proper aftercare and maintenance, you can help increase the lifespan of your lashes.

Let me share some essential tips to help you improve your lash retention!

Here are the important lash tips for your client’s lashes to last as long as possible:

1. HUMIDITY

The lash glue usually works best in a humidity range of 40% to 60%. Get a hydrometer to control the humidity in your lash room or studio.

5. CLEAN LASHES

The natural lashes should be clean. Natural oils and dirt must be removed for proper adherence. It is when a primer comes in handy.

Lash Primer is fantastic for resolving retention problems. It enhances the bond between lash extensions and natural lashes.

ThousandLashes Incredible Retention Primer is a pre-treatment for eyelash extensions to better Retention. Only a little volume could remove the oil and dust from the natural lashes and get better at holding the eyelash extensions. As tested, extensions last for at least one week longer when using a lash primer.

6. ADHESIVE USE

THIS CAN THREATEN YOUR LASH RETENTION:

Swipe your extension on any hard surfaces to remove the adhesive.

The adhesive starts to polymerize when there's humidity and as soon as it's out of the bottle.

The adhesive also starts to polymerize when it comes in contact with any surfaces. It can significantly affect your Retention, especially if you place your fan from the top.

Porosity Matters: How Low and High Porosity Influence Lash Retention

As a lash artist, one of the key factors that significantly impact lash retention is the porosity of the natural lashes. Porosity refers to the ability of the hair cuticle to absorb and retain moisture, including lash adhesive. Understanding the concepts of low and high porosity is essential for achieving optimal lash extensions that last. In this topic, we will delve into the significance of open cuticles and how they relate to low and high porosity, and provide practical solutions for enhancing lash retention based on porosity.

Porosity Matters How Low and High Porosity Influence Lash Retention

    The Role of Open Cuticles

To comprehend the impact of porosity on lash retention, we must first grasp the concept of open cuticles. The cuticle is the outermost layer of the hair shaft, and it can either be open or closed, depending on various internal and external factors. For lash extensions, it is desirable to have slightly open cuticles, as this allows the lash adhesive to form a strong bond with the natural lashes.

    Differentiating Low and High Porosity

Low porosity refers to the condition where the cuticle is closed, creating a barrier that hinders the absorption of moisture and lash adhesive. On the other hand, high porosity indicates that the cuticle has a lot of texture, allowing for enhanced moisture and adhesive penetration.

    Correcting Low Porosity

While dealing with high porosity lashes does not require correction, it is crucial to address low porosity for optimal lash retention. Fortunately, there is a simple solution. By using an appropriate primer with a higher pH than the natural lash, the cuticle can be opened up. The primer raises the pH, which in turn increases porosity, allowing the lash adhesive to penetrate and create a strong bond.

Benefits of Using an Appropriate Primer

Using a primer with a higher pH to correct low porosity offers several benefits. Firstly, it aids in opening up the cuticle, providing the adhesive with a suitable surface to adhere to. Secondly, it raises the pH, which promotes a stronger bond between the natural lash and the lash extension. This not only enhances retention but also contributes to a more durable and long-lasting lash application.

    TIP

Understanding porosity and its influence on lash retention is paramount for lash artists seeking to provide exceptional results. Low porosity, characterized by closed cuticles, requires correction through the use of an appropriate primer with a higher pH. By opening up the cuticle and increasing porosity, the lash adhesive can penetrate and establish a secure bond. Remember, there is no magic glue that can fix everything. Instead, it is essential to address porosity concerns and apply the right techniques to achieve outstanding lash retention.

I’m definitely having issues with my retention. It seems like sometimes when I put the extension lash on the natural lash I’m only getting the extension lash on the tip of the natural lash rather than 20% of it on the natural lash I deafly need help on my retention.
