How To Clean Your Lash Tweezers The Right Way

As a lash artist, you know how important it is to keep your tools and workspace clean and sanitary. One of the most critical pieces of equipment that you use is your lash tweezers. You can't do a good set of lashes without them, but what do you do when they need cleaning? If you're like many lash artists, you may be unsure about the best way to disinfect your tweezers. Not using the proper technique or disinfection can cause many problems for you and your clients. If you do not properly disinfect your eyelash tweezers, then you risk:

Getting an infection or even cross-contamination from one client to the next.

You are making your clients unhappy by giving them eye infections.

Damage your lash tweezers by using alcohol on them.

HOW OFTEN YOU SHOULD DISINFECT YOUR LASH TWEEZERS?

It would help if you disinfected your tweezers every day after every client. You want to disinfect them because you don't want to spread bacteria or germs from one client to another.

If you're a lash artist, you're probably already aware that proper sanitation is essential to the success of your business. While it's necessary to keep all of your tools clean and sterile, disinfecting your tweezers should be exceptionally high on your priority list.

Tweezers are used to directly apply lashes, meaning they come into contact with every client you have. Even if you're an excellent lash artist, you can still spread germs if you're using dirty tweezers.

If you're not sure how often you should be sanitizing your tweezers, here's what you need to know. The first thing you should know when it should be done is that there's no such thing as too much to disinfect your tweezers. All of your tools should be disinfected in between clients—including tweezers. That said, cleaning your tweezers more often is never a bad thing. It's wise to clean your tweezers every time you take them out of their case. This ensures that they're free from germs and ready for use as soon as you get them out

There's a right way to disinfect your tweezers and a wrong way. You might be tempted to give your tweezers a quick wipe with alcohol every time you work on someone, but that's not enough. Disinfecting your lash tweezers takes more time, but it's worth it. Here's what you will need:

BenzaRid Medical Grade Disinfectant or any of your choice (for cleaning the sink)

Hand washing soap

Disinfectant solution (Barbicide or PreEmpt Cs20 or any of your choice)

Your tweezers

A small container with a lid

Clean Towels or paper towels

Gloves

DISINFECTANT SOLUTION

Using a chemical to disinfect your tweezers is one of the most effective ways to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses. It's also commonly used in sterilizing medical tools.

Barbicide is an effective disinfectant and made to clean tweezers and other instruments used in the application and removal of eyelash extensions.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR LASH TWEEZERS - STEP BY STEP

It's essential to disinfect your tweezers in between clients. Each time you have a client, you should disinfect your tweezers. So let me show you a step by step on how to do it.

STEP #1: WORK IN A SANITIZED AREA

The first thing you want to do is make sure that you clean the area where you're working. So here we're using the Benzarid solution. It's a cleaner, a disinfectant, a virucide, and a fungicide.

You want to clean everything, the sink nicely. Ensure that everything is clean and sanitary in the area you're working on. Make sure that you're wiping everything.

A clean paper towel or towel and disinfectant cleaning spray can be used. To disinfect all of your surfaces, including the sink and other areas, your door handle, massage table, and other things.

STEP #2: WASH YOU HANDS

The next step is to wash your hands for at least 20 to 30 seconds, use a handwashing soap, get it between the fingers, and scrub well. Make sure that your hands are really clean. Remove every piece of jewelry if you have any.

STEP #3: WASH YOUR TWEEZERS

Before soaking in the disinfectant, make sure the tools are clean.

You can use acetone or tweezer cleaner. Suppose your tweezers have glue on them or different other residues. Alternatively, you can use a tweezer cleaner to get the glue off you. You can also use your fingers and your nails and remove them.

To use lash tweezer cleaner pinch the sponge ball many times with the tweezers in the cleaner liquid. It's also a good idea to spin the tweezers within the bottle so that they may make touch with the sponge ball.

Wipe the extra liquid from the tweezers before removing them from the bottle. Your tweezer should be free of debris. If you have a tweezer with particularly persistent residue or adhesive that won't come off, soak it in the solution for two minutes before wiping it clean.

Make sure that you look very closely if you're using clear glue because clear glue won't be as easily visible as black glue. So it's much easier to remove the black glue because you can physically see it. Try to remove it as much as possible from your tweezers. Just be careful not to poke yourself because tweezers are sharp.

The next step you want to do is to use a brush instead of using your fingernails to remove the adhesive from the tweezers. Lightly brush the tip of the tweezers.

This can be done in several ways. Using your fingertips is one option. Make sure to rub the tweezers and get every part of them completely.

You can also use a sponge to clean your tweezers. Sponges are easy to maneuver since they are soft. You may also use a smaller sponge to fit it between the tweezers.

You can also use a disposable lash spoolie or a cleaning brush. Because the bristles are thick enough to avoid harming tweezers, spoolies are great for cleansing them.

Cleaning your tweezer can also be done using a little brush with thick bristles. This method makes it simple to scrub tweezers without damaging them. The bristles function well because they clear any surface dirt that may have gotten lodged between the tweezers.

STEP #4 USE A DISINFECTANT SOLUTION

Barbicide is the most popular disinfectant used by lash artists to disinfect their tools.

Barbicide is a brand name for a cleaning solution formulated to kill bacteria and other germs. Barbicide can be used to clean a variety of tools, including tweezers.

To disinfect your tweezers, apply a barbicide. Because barbicide is concentrated, you'll need a measuring cup. Having a concentrated mix is that one bottle lasts a long time and takes up little shelf space. All you have to do is mix the barbicide with water and use it.

However, you can soak your tools in PreEmpt Cs20 disinfectant. It's a sterilant and disinfectant with a high level of effectiveness for medical instruments. It has a 14-day reuse period, so you can keep using the same disinfectant for two weeks.

Because it is corrosive, you must handle it with extreme caution. Always wear gloves when handling it. You should soak your tweezers for at least 20 minutes.

Having multiple sets of tools is important because you will not always have 20 minutes between sessions.

TIP: Even if surfaces like jade stones do not come into contact with the eyes, sterilize them. You can clean your jade stones using alcohol. Acetone can be used to dissolve any excess glue.

STEP #5 PUT YOUR TWEEZERS ON A TRAY OR CONTAINER

A small container or a tool sterilizer tray might be used (you can purchase one from amazon).

Gently place the tweezers in the tray, making sure they are side by side and not jumbled. Make sure that they are completely submerged in the disinfectant. Allow it to soak for at least 20 minutes. You can also set a timer to do this.

TIP: Read the instructions on your solution carefully because they may differ. Check the health and safety regulations in your area. It varies from country to country, and states and provinces may have varied rules.

STEP #6 DISINFECT YOUR PROTECTIVE TWEEZER COVERS

Lash artists frequently skip disinfecting the protective covers for their tweezers, but it is also essential. To do this, use a little container cup.

To soak the protective covers thoroughly, fill the little cup halfway with isopropyl alcohol. Allow for a few minutes. Place a clean paper towel on the side of the covers to dry them. After that, rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Continue rinsing and draining them to ensure that all alcohol has been removed. When you're done, place them on the paper towel.

STEP #7 THOROUGHLY RINSE AND DRY YOUR TWEEZERS

Always rinse them with water (or hot water) after 20 minutes of soaking until there is no more residue. Place them on a clean towel or a clean paper towel to dry your tools.

Only use a clean paper towel to clean each tweezer. Make sure the tweezer's inside parts are fully dry. To do this, place the paper towel between the tweezers and gently press the tweezers on it.

STEP #8 STORE YOUR TWEEZERS PROPERLY

To avoid any water buildup or stains, dry the tweezers as much as possible. To make the paper towel fit more firmly between the tweezers, fold it a few times.

Make sure the protective covers are dry before storing your tweezers. Water should not be present on it because it may attract bacteria.

THERE ARE 2 METHODS THAT YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM WHEN USING A CHEMICAL TO DISINFECT YOUR LASH TWEEZERS

Ensure that you're using clean and disinfected eyelash tweezers every day. These are usually stainless steel and come with a lid to keep the solution from evaporating while the tweezers soak.

If you don't have one, don't fret! You can always use a small container made of glass or plastic. In this case, choose a big container for all your tweezers to fit side-by-side without touching each other. This will prevent the bacteria from spreading from one tweezer to another.

When disinfecting your lash tweezers, the safest option is to use a chemical. You can choose from one of two methods: immersion or wiping.

Immersion involves submerging the tweezers in a disinfectant like Barbicide (a hospital-grade disinfectant specifically meant for beauty tools) for 10 minutes.

Wiping involves saturating a cotton pad with disinfectant and wiping it across every surface of each tweezer, including the inside, outside, tip, and base. You'll need to do this on both sides of each tweezer, then let it sit for 10 minutes.
