I know that this is a subject you guys love because every time we post a video on Instagram about eyelash patches, there are always so many questions and comments. It's a subject that isn't covered quite as often as it should be, and it appears to be simple, but it isn't.
In the beauty world, eyelash extensions aren't just beautiful; they're practical, enabling your client to have long and luscious lashes that will enhance their beauty. As with any procedure, proper application of eyelash extensions requires you to know some things before going ahead with them. A critical aspect of the eyelash extension procedure is carefully placing the under-eye patches to secure the extension application.

Eyelash extensions can be the perfect addition to any beauty regimen, whether for a special occasion or just to add glamor and pizzazz. But if you're considering applying eyelash extensions on your client, you'll want to ensure everything is in good order beforehand.
In this blog, you will learn the different types of under eye patches, how do you apply eye patches for eyelash extensions, and lash application mistakes and solutions.
REGULAR UNDER EYE PATCHES
The benefit is they are effortless to work with, skinny, so it will be effortless to access the inner corners and comfortable for clients.
The downside of these general patches is that they're only good for clients that have a regular standard eye shape and for anything a little bit more complicated eye shape.
The other issue is for clients with pretty coarse lower lashes, these eye patches tend to move, and they're not going to stay in place.

HYDRO-GEL UNDER EYE PATCHES
The excellent aspect about these eyelash patches is that you can work with clients with fairly thick under lashes and versatile shapes.
For clients that have unruly lower lashes where you have to reapply them every 15 to 20 minutes, this kind of under-eye patch is perfect to use!
Sometimes, it is harder to reach the inner corners with the lash patches so what you can do is to adjust by cutting them out. Cut the shape out to make it fit your client or have different forms on hand available; most companies now offer various eye patches. When your client comes in, you can easily pick the shape that works for their particular eye shape.

BIO GEL LASH PATCHES
As a lash artist, the right tools are essential. Bio gel patches are a must-have. These pre-cut, chemical-free, non-irritating eye pads enhance your lash application process. They ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for clients.
Their unique gel composition allows easy repositioning without losing adhesion. Suitable for all eye shapes, they adjust seamlessly. Both bio gel and hydrogel pads are great choices, each with benefits.
Hydrogel pads offer hydration and reliability. Bio gel provide added flexibility and comfort. They stay in place through adjustments, ideal for sensitive skin. For the best in adhesion, comfort, and repositionability.

MICROFOAM UNDER EYE PATCHES
The microfoam under-eye patches are the last patch we'll discuss. What makes these unique is that they are composed of microfoam.
These are the thickest patches available on the market. They will be much bigger, and they are the best for clients who have coarse under lashes. They will stay in place, not moving like the other types of lash patches.
Don't use these patches on every client you will have. You want to use them on clients who have trouble applying the gel patches. Also, it is ideal to use for clients who are allergic to collagen, gel, and hydrogel patches.
It is essential to ensure that you apply them correctly, but not only that, if the clients have no issues with patches and they have regular eye shape, there is no need to use the microfoam patches.

How to Choose the Right Under Eye Pads
Consider Skin Type
Always consider your client’s skin type when choosing under eye pads. For clients with sensitive skin, bio gel or foam pads might be more suitable.
Repositionability
If you frequently need to adjust the pads during application, opt for pads that maintain their adhesion even after repositioning, like bio gel pads.
Comfort
Ensure the pads you choose are comfortable for the client. Uncomfortable pads can cause the client to fidget, making your job more difficult.
Application Tips
-
Preparation: Cleanse the under-eye area to remove any oils or makeup residue. This ensures better adhesion of the pads.
-
Placement: Carefully place the pad about 1-2 millimeters below the lower lash line. Ensure all lower lashes are covered to prevent them from sticking to the upper lashes.
-
Adjusting: If you need to adjust the pad, do so gently to maintain adhesion and avoid irritating the skin.
-
Check Comfort: Always ask your client if the pads feel comfortable. If they experience any discomfort, adjust as necessary.
HOW DO YOU APPLY EYE PATCHES FOR EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
STEP #1 ENSURE YOUR CLIENT’S EYES ARE CLEANED ( PRE-APPLICATION )
Clean and dry the client's eye area with lash foam shampoo, a mild cleansing solution that eliminates eye makeup and impurities from the lashes, especially if the client has oily skin. The lashes will not stick properly.

STEP #2 ENSURE THAT YOUR CLIENT IS LOOKING UP STRAIGHT
To isolate the layers of your client's lashes when working with lash extension patches, make sure they are looking straight up (not backward) and not talking. It will ensure that your client is comfortable and that the patches do not move.

STEP #3 AVOID GETTING TOO CLOSE TO THE WATERLINE
One of the most challenging things to achieve is keeping the lashes down while keeping them away from the client's eye. Maintain a minimum spacing of 2-3mm between the pads and the client's waterline.

STEP #4 MAKE SURE THAT THE LASH PATCHES ARE PROPERLY SECURE ( IF NEEDED )
Apply two strips of micropore tape (about an inch and a half long) down the lash line to keep any other lashes down.
Ask if your client feels any pinching or discomfort when they close their eyes. Then, gently tug on the tape and eye pads to adjust them with their eyes closed.

LASH PATCHES APPLICATION MISTAKES AND SOLUTIONS
PUTTING THE UNDER-EYE PATCHES TOO HIGH SO THAT THEY DON’T TOUCH THE CONJUNCTIVAL
You need to see the growth of the client's lashes, and you want to make sure that you're not patching too high. Still, you also want to make sure that you're not putting the patches too low because if you put it too low, you will have the issues of lower lashes popping out and need to constantly readjust the patches to avoid gluing the upper lashes to the lower lashes.

APPLYING THE PATCHES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SERVICE AND THINKING THAT’S IT
You need to check the eyelash patches every 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the clients (if they're talking). Because if they're talking, their face is moving, and the patches are going to move as well, what's going to happen is you may need to change them more frequently.
