The 4 Most Common Reasons For Poor Lash Retention
How can I improve my lash retention? What causes poor retention in lash extensions? Is it normal for lash extensions to fall out after 2 days? We've got answers to all of these questions (and more) below!
If you're a lash artist, you probably know that the most important thing in your business is maintaining good lash retention. Poor retention can spell disaster for your business and your client's satisfaction. If a client's lashes fall out before their appointment time, then you've lost money on the extension fee and the service fee you charge for re-applying to them. And if your clients aren't happy, they won't be as likely to come back for more services from you—or recommend you to their friends!

You've probably heard the question "How can I maximize my lash retention?" more times than you can count. We get it: it's frustrating when your clients are asking for their money back because their lashes fell out before their appointment time! But don't worry—we've got answers.
LASH EXTENSION TECHNIQUES
If you're having trouble with retention, it might be time to fix your technique.
We all know that a good lash technician can make or break a set of lashes; but what exactly does it mean to have a "good" technician?
Color Lashes, Ultra Crystal Bond, Super Bonder, Short Tip Boot Lash Tweezer, Straight Isolation Tweezer, Hydro-Gel Under Eye Patches, Silicone Extra Sensitive Tape , and Eyelash Extension Ballet Slippers Tape are used in this set. To shop, please click here.
A good lash tech will have complete knowledge of the entire process, including how long lash glue takes to cure, how long lashes should be allowed to set before being removed from the tray and applied, and what kind of tips are best suited for each client. A great lash tech will also be able to recognize when something is wrong with the application or glue and take steps to correct it before it can cause issues.
If you're doing everything right but still seeing issues like poor retention, clumped lashes or even fall out, it may be time for a new product. If you're using a lash adhesive that's been sitting around for months, it could be losing its efficacy.

EYELASH SHEDDING
What causes eyelashes to shed?
We all shed lashes daily—as many as 3-5 per day! The process of replacing old lashes with new ones is natural and normal, just like it is for your head hair. And that’s why you don’t walk around bald: your body is constantly regenerating itself to stay healthy and strong.
Hydro-Gel Under Eye Patches, Lash Extension Medical Tape, Silicone Extra Sensitive Tape and Eyelash Extension Ballet Slippers Tape are used in this set. To shop, please click here.
Honestly, you should be thanking your body for its ability to replace dead or damaged cells so quickly. Unfortunately, this also means that you lose some lashes every day (especially if you have extensions).
Most lash artists consider it normal to lose a few lashes per day. That's where we come in: we make sure that the number of lashes lost between fill appointments remains relatively low.

THE WRONG LASH PRODUCTS CAN CAUSE MORE DAMAGE THAN YOU THINK
Often, the best way to improve your lash work is to look at how you're using or storing your products.
Your glue is the most important part of your lash application, and it's something you should take care of like a professional.

The glue that dries too quickly or isn't suited for the environment are both things that can be avoided by taking some time to learn about the different types of glue out there and how they work with your environment (you should have a Hygrometer).
If you're using lashes that are too heavy or thick for your client's natural lashes, this can cause issues with lash application and even damage their natural lashes.
And if your glue has been stored improperly, it may have dried out, which will make it difficult to use properly. If you notice any issues with your glue, take the time to replace it with a fresh batch so you can continue applying beautiful lashes!

LASH EXTENSION AFTERCARE FOR CLIENTS
I've got a question for you.
Have you ever had a client who just won't keep their lashes on?
If so, then I've got some tips for you that will help prevent this from happening again.
Lash Wisps Mixed Lengths, Optite Low Humidity Adhesive, Hydro-Gel Under Eye Patches, Silicone Extra Sensitive Tape and Eyelash Extension Ballet Slippers Tape are used in this set. To shop, please click here.
First, make sure you're giving them aftercare advice every time they come in. Remind them how important it is to follow this advice and what the consequences are if they don't follow it.
Second, make sure they're listening to you! Maybe they think they know everything there is to know about keeping their lashes on, but we both know that's not true (I mean, look at me!). So maybe give them a quick refresher before they leave and see if that helps.
Finally, remember: it's all about relationships! If your clients feel like they can talk to you about whatever problems arise with their lashes—whether it's an issue with the glue or an allergy—then they'll feel more comfortable coming back.

CONCLUSION
All of these reasons are pretty common and can affect the outcome of your lash service. Unfortunately, there is no exact way to prevent all of them from happening, but if you keep these tips in mind you will decrease them greatly.
To gain a better understanding of lash maintenance, we need to take a look at the main reasons why lashes fall out and prevent this from happening. One of the first things we can do to combat these problems is to educate clients on lash care after they leave our lash room or studio. The more they know, the more they will be able to take control of their lash health and help you grow your business (and their lashes!).
Remember, poor lash retention can have a significant impact on the profitability of your business.
