Being a lash artist is the best decision that I made. Venturing into this kind of industry has been rewarding yet challenging, and it brings out the best and worst about me.

Before discussing the money side of this blog, let us briefly talk about how to become a lash artist.

You can check out your area where you can have your training to get certified as a lash artist, which is very important for you to perform eyelash extensions.

There are so many things that you need to learn. Yes, you can watch videos online, but hands-on training will be a different kind of training that will further enhance the type of skills that you already have or have no experience with at all.

Once you get certified, the next step would be sourcing for your lash products essential when you perform your job. It will be a bit time and money-consuming because you have trial-and-error on this part.

Are you going to work in a salon or have your shop, or maybe you can consider working from home since it's pandemic? It all depends on your current situation financially.

Just a heads up, you will not earn as much as you are expecting when you are just starting your career because you may know you need to invest in the products you will be needing, your location, and other stuff.

How much do lash artists make?

It's a question that I get asked a lot: "How much money can I make as a lash artist?"

How much money you can make is determined by several factors, some of which are under your control.

First and foremost, the more clients you have, the more income you'll receive. But not only have the clients come in but having them come back is essential. Because if they don't come back, you're not going to be able to charge them, or they're not going to be paying you.

Secondly, what do you charge? Some people say "double" or "triple" or whatever number they want to use, and they multiply it by what they think their cost is. That's not really how it works.

I think it's important to understand your market and understand what people are willing to pay. And this isn't unique to the beauty industry or lashes. It applies across the board for any brick-and-mortar business where people are coming directly into a place of business and paying for services.

As I said, it's essential to know your market, but other things go into it, like how much time it takes you to apply your lashes.

Let us make a computation for you to oversee the possible earnings you will be getting.

For a classic, I started charging ranging from 50-80$ when I started. Some of you might think that is way too low. Yes, you may be right. However, during this time, my goal is to practice as much as possible.

Even after getting certified, I kept practicing, but I didn't charge any. I called for models, my family members, and my BFFs willing to be my practice client, and I did everything for myself. I didn't earn so much, but I learned from those who trusted me.

Computation:

If you've ever considered a career as a lash artist, now's the time to make your move.

Let say, 80$/full set

80$/set x 4 clients/8 hr. = 320$/day

320$/day x 5 days a week = 1, 600$/5 days of work

1, 600$/week x 4 weeks in a month = 6, 400$/month

6, 400$ x 12 months = 76, 800$/year

That is only for a classic set. You can get higher for the different lash sets you will offer your clients.

This pricing is for my beginner's rate. And I keep increasing as I eventually get to know more of the industry.

Let us say, you’re already a PRO and charging 130$ for classic, let see the computation below:

130$/set x 6 clients/8 hr. = 780$/day

780$/day x 5 days a week = 3, 900$/5 days of work

3, 900$/week x 4 weeks in a month = 15, 600$/month

15, 600$ x 12 months = 187, 200$/year

What do you think about this computation? Do you think this is undoubtedly a profitable career? As I have mentioned earlier, earnings depend on how fast you can work on and how many clients you can accommodate per day.

How to put a price on your service?

As a lash artist, you might not know how to put a price on your lash services. You can do competitor's research, check your local lash artist as to how much they are charging, and it's best to check how the local market is doing their prices. With this, you will not set so high or low.

If your area has clients who pay more and give tips, of course, go charge higher, but if it's the other way around, then make the necessary adjustment on your pricing.
