What Is a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a chemical curling process done on natural lashes. We use lifting solutions and silicone shields to shape lashes upward from the base.

The result is a lifted look that can last several weeks.

  • Lifting and setting lashes over the rod

  • Applying a setting solution

  • Optional tinting

  • Final conditioning

Preparing for a Lash Lift Appointment

As lash artists, we follow a set process before every lash lift session:

  • Confirm no contraindications like eye infections or skin reactions.

  • Clean the client’s eye area with an oil-free cleanser.

  • Choose the correct shield size for the desired result.

  • Use disposable tools and sterile applicators.

  • Perform a patch test if required by law or salon policy.

We advise clients to:

  • Avoid wearing makeup or waterproof mascara on the day of the appointment.

  • Stop using lash serums at least 24 hours before.

  • Avoid caffeine to reduce eye movement during the procedure.

  • Arrive on time and communicate any sensitivities.

Who Is Suitable for a Lash Lift?

Clients who are suitable:

  • Have medium to long natural lashes.

  • Prefer low-maintenance lash services.

  • Are not allergic to perming solutions.

  • Do not want extensions.

  • Have recent eye surgeries.

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding (depending on policy).

How Does a Lash Lift Work? (Step-by-Step)

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how a lash lift is performed from start to finish.

Lash & Brow Lift Kit, Rainbow Lash Lift Rods, and Purple Lash Lift Tool are used in this set. To shop, please click here.

Step 1: Clean the Natural Lashes

We begin by cleansing the lashes to remove oils, residue, or makeup. This helps the lifting solution adhere properly.

Step 2: Choose and Place the Silicone Shield

A silicone rod or shield is selected based on the desired curl. We place it on the eyelid using a gentle adhesive to keep it in position.

Step 3: Adhere Lashes to the Shield

We lift the natural lashes onto the shield using lash-safe glue. Each lash must be separated and straight to ensure an even lift.

Step 4: Apply the Lifting Solution

This solution softens the lash structure by breaking down disulfide bonds in the hair. It allows the lashes to mold to the shape of the shield.

Step 5: Wait for Processing Time

Processing usually takes 6–12 minutes depending on lash thickness and the product used. We must not exceed the manufacturer’s timing to avoid overprocessing.

Step 6: Remove the Lifting Solution

After time is up, we gently remove the lifting solution with a clean tool or applicator, avoiding contact with skin or eyes.

Step 7: Apply the Setting Solution

This solution rebuilds the disulfide bonds in the new lifted shape. It “locks in” the curl created by the shield.

Step 8: Wait for Second Processing Time

Similar to the lift solution, timing is crucial. Usually 6–10 minutes.

Step 9: Optional: Apply Tint

If adding a tint, it is done after setting. We apply lash tint to darken the lashes, especially helpful for clients with lighter lashes.

Step 10: Remove the Shield and Clean Up

Once processing is complete, we gently remove the shield, cleanse the eye area, and brush through the lashes to reveal the lift.
