This can cause extensions that were applied in one direction to shift out of place, which can leave you with an uneven look.

We've all been there--you're trying to apply lashes, and the client is blinking or moving their eyes around. It's a huge pain, right?

EYELASH EXTENSION APPLICATION: MOVING EYES

Clients twitching and moving eyes during application can be a big issue when applying lash extensions. If the eye is constantly moving it creates a risk of adhesive getting into the eye. Lash artists are working with tweezers and adhesive very closely to the client’s eyes, it is risky to have a client who isn't stable. It may also cause the lash artist to incorrectly apply the lashes, resulting in early shedding.

If you're a lash artist, you've probably had this question posed to you. The answer is "maybe."

Does nicotine make your eye twitch?

So if you're concerned about whether or not nicotine is a factor in your client's eye twitching during the lash application, here are some things to consider:

  • Do they have dry eyes? If so, what are their symptoms?
  • Is there caffeine intake high? Are they trying to quit smoking? Do they suffer from anxiety or depression?
  • Have they been drinking heavily for the past few days? Are they coming in for lash extensions just one day after having their fill of nicotine?

AS A CLIENT TO EASE EYE TWITCHING, YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY THE FOLLOWING

You know what's not great? When your client has an eyelash extension application and starts twitching. It's even worse when she's twitching because her lashes are being applied.

But here's the thing: if you're a lash artist, you don't have to worry about that happening again. Because we've got the answers to all of your clients' twitching problems right here.

How do you make your eye stop twitching fast?

DRINK LESS CAFFEINE

Caffeine is a stimulant, and it can make your client's eyes twitch more than they normally would. If they're in the habit of drinking coffee or tea throughout the day, help them cut back during the week before their appointment.

GET ADEQUATE SLEEP

Sleep deprivation can cause high levels of stress and anxiety in your client, which can make her eyes twitch more than they would otherwise. Make sure she gets at least eight hours of sleep each night leading up to her appointment.

KEEP THE EYE SURFACES LUBRICATED WITH OVER-THE-COUNTER ARTIFICIAL TEARS OR EYE DROPS

Dryness causes irritation to the eye surface, which can lead to twitching.

APPLY  A WARM COMPRESS TO YOUR EYES WHEN A SPASM BEGINS

Warm compresses can relax muscles and reduce pain.

LASH TECHNIQUE #1

To apply a little pressure on the top of the eyelid, use an eye pad and place it on the top of the eyelid. This will also stop the eyelid from shaking as much.

LASH TECHNIQUE #2

To add more pressure to the top of the eyelid, cut a long piece of paper tape and place it on the top of the eye pad. The extra pressure might sometimes keep the lids from moving too much.

LASH TECHNIQUE #3

Place your sterilized penny on the top of the eyelid and secure it with paper tape. You have the option of crisscrossing it or placing it straight on the penny. Sometimes, that's enough to get the job done. The coldness of the penny might also help to calm fluttering eyelids.

Keep in mind sometimes this will do the trick, you may need to lash your client with a penny on their lid for the entire lash application. If you remove it, believing it would never happen again, and something triggers it, their eyes begin to twitch, you will have to start over.

LASH TECHNIQUE #4

Place a gel pad on your client’s upper lid, “sandwiching” the lash line, and calming the moving lids. If the additional gel pad isn’t enough to settle the moving lashes, use paper or plastic tape to attach the upper and lower gel pads together.
