When making your sets darker and fuller, it's essential to work in layers. It's an excellent alternative to mapping to start with a few extensions. Switching between eyes during the application will help prevent lash clumping. It's easy to tape lashes back once the top layer has lash extensions. Layering lashes achieve super dark lashes. When doing mega volume, isolation is necessary because you're dealing with so many lashes and a little more glue than when doing classic lashes, and you want to make sure you don't stick them together. Another thing to consider is the importance of glue usage and isolation. If you can adequately isolate your mega volume fans, you won't have to deal with them sticking together. Client's do not want to deal with this issue. One way to ensure that your isolation is on point is to take your time and thoroughly isolate those lashes, whether they're baby or curly lashes. But the most important thing to remember is not the glue surface, but it's how you dip your adhesive that will have the most significant impact on your retention, always make sure to dip the lash fan or the lash in the middle of the glue drop. This is a surprisingly tricky question to answer because there are so many different opinions out there. After reading this blog, you will feel more confident about using other adhesive surfaces for your lash extensions.   JADE STONE The most popular choice is a jade stone. It keeps the surface cold, which reduces the oxidation of your glue, allowing each glue dot to last a little longer. However, you should always cover it with something else if you don't want the glue to stay after you've used it, and the best way to fix this is to soak the jade stone in acetone for 45 minutes, which will dissolve the old adhesive. You can cover it with microfoam tape, breathable tape, or aluminum foil. Just make sure that you always clean it. It's not going to make a massive difference in how long it's going to last, but extra few minutes make a difference for your glue. Because adhesive stones are further away from the client's face and the lash artist's face, they produce fewer fumes and provide a safer working environment for some lash artists. You place it on your finger and then apply the glue. Each petal can hold just the right amount of glue, keeping it ready for quick, easy access. The holder sticks firmly to your work area to prevent spills. However, it has fewer drops. There are only 6 of them, which is sufficient for most sets. It is an excellent way to remind the lash artist that the glue drop needs to be changed every 30 minutes. It keeps your glue drop in the perfect concave form, extending the life of the adhesive and preventing it from drying too soon. So far, we've found it handy. They can be applied straight to the glue ring or any other surface you're working on, but they were designed to go with the glue ring. You may slip your fan bases through the V edges or slit to sharpen them and make them less boxy. It's an excellent tool for generating fans, particularly for novices. It is not, however, recyclable.   PRO TIP: You can use aluminum foil. You can also use it on your glue ring or jade stone and cut it out in the shape that will fit your preferred surface. Once you've finished using the adhesive, remove the aluminum and throw it to extend the life of your tools. Another advantage of using aluminum foil is that it keeps your glue fresher for longer than putting it on a plastic surface because it has a colder surface. This can be a great way to get more wear out of the lash extensions and keep them looking fresh. A lash fill is also a good option if a client wants to add more volume or length to their lashes. New lash extensions are applied to the client's natural lashes as the old ones fall out; that is what you call lash fills. Your client should come in every 2 to 3 weeks, but longer wait times may imply that filling the lashes will take longer because there will be more lashes to fill. No booking site They didn't book follow up appointment Not informing client the importance of lash maintenance They did not like lash extensions They found it too expensive   Here's why we need lash fill every 2-3 weeks because lashes grow out: After week 3, it's always advisable to charge a client for a full set after week 3, because there will be too many lashes that have grown out, and will need to be removed. There will be almost no lashes left over, and time wise it will take almost the same time as a full set. To shop, please click here. The client comes and says I'm here for my refill, and I have about 40 % of lashes left. That's is technically accurate. BUT…60-70% of those lashes have grown out to the point that they will twist over and OR break the client's natural lashes if not removed. Therefore the lash artist will spend about 15-20 min removing the grown-out lashes, then proceed to an almost FULL set, except about 10-20 lashes in each eye. Keep in mind that time-wise, this now took 1.5-2 H almost the same time of not the same time as a FULL set.Therefore, if you are a lash artist, feel yourself burning out and feel like you are not charging your worth, this could be one of the culprits.So how to solve this issue? You need to educate your clients and explain to them that since you have had to remove most of the grown lashes and charged for a FULL set ( most will be understanding )It will NOT happen at every appointment with every refill, but it could happen every 3rd or 4th refill for most clients.Protect your time and your boundaries. Lash fill is a controversial topic. It can be challenging when you're a beginner. To shop, please click here.   Refills are not the best for beginner lash artists, because you will continue to make mistakes as a new lash artist, and your work will not be perfect, which is just fine. However, with refills, your errors might compound, meaning you'll be still figuring out how your glue works, which means you'll continually make stickies in your career, which isn't ideal. Aside from stickies, there will be some lashes that have outgrown, and you need to remove, as well as other lashes that will fall off, leaving gaps that will need to fill, and you'll be learning how to apply volume.I would recommend removing the lashes entirely and doing a complete new set for beginners. To shop, please click here.   IF THE CLIENT HAS LESS THAN 40% OF EXTENSIONS Based on what I've learned, I wouldn't recommend refilling if your client has less than 40% of her lashes remaining from the last set. It is because it'll take the same amount of time as completing a full set. After all, you'll have to go through and remove stickies, prep, and clean the lashes.   A LOT OF STICKIES If the clients have a lot of stickies, you'll have to go through them one by one and remove them using the banana peel method. It can take a long time, and if there are a lot of stickies, it's sometimes easier to remove the entire set, and starting over.   IF THE CLIENT WANTS A DIFFERENT LASH STYLE You won't refill if the client wants a different kind of mapping. For example, let's say the client comes in with a complete set of volume lashes from a previous lash set, and she wants you to do a wispy look on her. In this case, it's much better to tell the client, "Let's remove your full set and start over and do a perfect set of wispy volume lashes."   IF THE CLIENT DOESN’T TAKE GOOD CARE OF HER LASHES Lastly, I would not recommend a refill if the client has terrible lash care, and when she comes in, her lashes are dirty and unkept. I'd suggest removing the lashes and doing a complete set, as well as educating the client on proper lash care. One tweezer holds the natural lash, while the other keeps the extension. It takes a bit longer, but it's more gentle and just as effective at removing outgrown lashes before a refill. STEP #1 Apply paper tape on the client's eyelid in a circular way.   STEP #2 Take the lashes that you need to isolate and put them on top of the tape. So now we'll talk about what steps you should take if you're doing a refill on one of your regular clients who has good lashes and takes care of them, and what steps you should take while doing an actual refill. I would follow them in this order.   STEP #1 LOOK THROUGH THE CLIENTS LASHES FOR ANY STICKIES If you notice a lot of stickies on your client's lashes and it looks filthy, there is probably too much glue, and you should remove it. If there are only stickies, you can use the banana peel technique to remove them quickly, and it shouldn't take long, maybe 10-15 minutes, depending on the situation. Most lash artists and most salons charge 45-50% of the full set price for a fill as long as the client comes within 2-3 weeks. The important distinction is to make sure the client still has at least 40% of their lashes remaining. If the client has less than 40 % of their lashes, they should be charged for a full set, as it will take almost as much time as a full set.Many lash artists also charge by the amount of time they spend on their client's sets. For example, if it takes the lash artist 1h30 minutes to do a set, they may charge 150$; for 2h they may charge 200$; for 2h30 they may charge 250$. It can be tough to tell whether a client is oily because it isn't always obvious, and sometimes you won't know until you see the lash and it has slipped off. If your humidity and temperature are perfect, but your lashes are falling off, you may need to use a primer. It is essential to understand when and why you should use primer since then you'll have the best retention.   WHAT IS A LASH PRIMER? The eyelash extension primer is a pre-treatment for the lashes to help them stay in place longer. I recommend giving your clients a lash bath before you start priming. Some lash artists prefer to provide all of their clients (complete lash sets or fills) with a lash bath to clean the lashes before starting thoroughly. Don't let a little product throw you! Make sure you know when and why to apply it--and when not to. Primer can result in poor retention and damage to the natural lashes if not used on the correct client. Lash primer, when used correctly, can make your lash application faster and improve retention. But it's only suitable for some clients.  If a client has dry skin, putting a primer on their lashes can also dry them out, preventing the adhesive from fully attaching to the natural lashes. STEP #1 Place your tweezer in the middle of the extension when picking up the classic lashes. It shouldn't be too high or too low. If you set it too low, the lash glue will stick to your lash tweezer, and if you put it too high, you won't have enough control over the extension. You're not alone, many people have made the same mistakes, and I'm here to share them with you.   MISTAKE #1 POSITIONING THE UNDER-EYE PAD ON THE WATERLINE TOO HIGH Putting the under-eye pad too high on the waterline is a common mistake. When you go too close to the waterline and the client closes their eyes, the lash pad shifts up, causing watery eyes and bruising. We mistakenly believe it is due to an allergic reaction to the adhesive, but it is actually due to the pad scratching the client's eyes. The simplest way to avoid this is consistently re-adjust the patches every 20-30 minutes, ensuring the client is comfortable, and the patches are not causing discomfort. If your clients' eyes turned red and watery during the session, there could be a variety of causes for this, but this could be one of them, so keep an eye out for it and make sure you're not taping too high. Some lash artists use 0.20, but this is a controversial topic. We recommend using 0.15-0.18, depending on the client's natural lashes condition. A healthy and natural solid lash can hold only 0.25. If you apply a heavy extension, it will harm the natural lashes. Ensure to evaluate each of your client's lashes; even though I understand that this takes a little more time, it will undoubtedly save your clients because their lashes will remain healthy and solid thanks to your lashing service. The rule of thumb is to go up 2-3 mm from the client's natural lashes. If your client's lashes are 11mm, you can apply a 13-14mm lash on this natural lash without risking damage. In addition to this, you want to map out the client's lashes to have a nice smooth transition in between all lengths. One of the biggest mistakes a lash artist can make is using the same size throughout the eye. It's essential to use a variety of lengths to achieve an excellent symmetrical and complementary mapping. When you pinch and get a tiny droplet out of it, it'll lay flat, and your glue should have a little bubble. If you're going to shake it by hand, make sure you shake it side by side for at least 1 or 2 minutes to ensure the ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Your second drop will be the freshest with all of the ingredients mixed. Never shake your adhesive up and down. Every time you shake your lash adhesive, it will raise the nozzle. Thinner viscosity glue is so fragile if you shake it up and down, the cap will become stuck to it, and your adhesive will stop working correctly, causing you problems. If you drop it and it's a puddle, keep shaking it until you drop it and it's an actual bubble. When you get a maximum bond and do it when it is a puddle, and you dip your extension in there, it doesn't even stick to the lash; appropriately, it might even pop off while you brush it. Make sure it comes out as a single tiny drop on the actual extension; you don't want multiple bubbles on the lash extension because that would be excessive adhesive. Apply one dip to the bubble, a small amount of glue to the bottom, and then glide it over the natural lash. If you use too much adhesive, you'll get stickies, which will harm the natural lashes. Moreover, the baby lashes will adhere to the extensions and the lash, clumping together. Optite Low Humidity Adhesive, Lashes and L Shape Tweezer are used here. To shop, please click here.     If you dip your extension into too much adhesive, you can still save it:It needs to be put one more and slowly removed from the glue; once you pull it, the lash glue will gently glide off. I used to make one mistake was wiping off the excess on the patches. I quickly learned that it causes retention issues, can burn through the patch, and generate heat, making the client uncomfortable. For clients with sensitive skin, bio gel or foam pads might be more suitable. Repositionability If you frequently need to adjust the pads during application, opt for pads that maintain their adhesion even after repositioning, like bio gel pads. Comfort Ensure the pads you choose are comfortable for the client. Uncomfortable pads can cause the client to fidget, making your job more difficult.   Application Tips Preparation: Cleanse the under-eye area to remove any oils or makeup residue. This ensures better adhesion of the pads. Placement: Carefully place the pad about 1-2 millimeters below the lower lash line. Ensure all lower lashes are covered to prevent them from sticking to the upper lashes. Adjusting: If you need to adjust the pad, do so gently to maintain adhesion and avoid irritating the skin. Just apply the glue aid to the strip of the lashes before you start working and making fans. It will speed up the process and make the lashes soft, and you can work faster. Many lash artists tend to continue using 2-sec drying time adhesive even after their timing has improved just because that's where they feel most comfortable. After you've been a lash artist for at least six months, if you have a lot of clients a week, your timing should improve, especially if you are doing volume more often to your clients, you should switch to 0.05 to 1 sec drying time adhesive. Also, if you use an adhesive that is too slow, your fans will close, and you're going to get frustrated because you're trying to apply that fan on the natural lash, and the fan is closing on you. It's essential to ensure that the inner corners are completed and look nice and polished.I used to overlook the inner corners when I started as a lash artist since I didn't know how to work with them. They were pretty intimidating to me. Lashes and Elite High Humidity Adhesive are used here. To shop, please click here.   4 PRO LASH TIPS FOR LASHING INNER CORNERS LASH TIP #1 USE A CURVED TWEEZER A dolphin tweezer works well (C-type tweezer or a 45-degree angle tweezer) because it will be much easier to angle that tweezer and get into those inner corners. Dolphin-Shaped Curved Tweezer is used here. To shop, please click here.   REMINDER The sweet spot for your tweezer is from the tip of your tweezer's nose to the middle. ( all tweezers vary slightly in terms of their sweet spot, it's essential to test it out and determine the exact place on YOUR tweezer that will pick up your fan. Make sure to avoid holding your tweezers too high since it will not allow you to control the strength of the grip, and you will need to press too hard to achieve a good grip, leading to hand fatigue. Hold your tweezer in the middle with three fingers, the thumb on one side and the index and middle finger on the other side. It seems like a small detail, but if you get these details wrong, you will struggle with making your lash fans greatly. You shouldn't place heavy lashes in the inner corners because you don't want to overload those lashes; they're usually weaker and fragile. I recommend you use 5mm to 7mm for the inner corners. It is a technique that advanced lash artists usually use because inner corners are relatively easy for them.
